Following the launch of BMW's new M5, Mercedes have responded in kind with the superb E63 AMG. The 5.4 Litre powerplant of the previous E55 is replaced with a potent 6.3L V8 in the W211 version, this time without the need for a supercharger. Power is actually up, but torque is down (in line with current Mercedes thinking).

A restricted 155mph is available (around 200mph derestricted), channelled through a remarkable 7-speed auto gearbox (with paddle-shift should the mood take you). The E63 also features a raft of advanced technology from the S-Class such as the innovative pre-safe accident preparation system.
